WHO WE ARE:
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is an advocacy organization, taking direction and fulfilling mandates as directed by First Nations in-Assembly through resolutions. As a national advocacy organization for First Nations, the AFN seeks to advance First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights through the development policy, public education and where applicable, the co-development of legislation to build First Nations capacity.
The AFN was created out of a desire among First Nations leadership for a strong and effective collective advocacy organization. From this, values such as respect for human rights, diversity, justice, and the sovereignty of each rights-holding First Nation guide the work of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Secondary school certificate or equivalent, certificate in administrative studies or equivalent combination of education and 2+ years of administrative experience.
- Intermediate to advanced level of computer literacy skills particularly in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and research engines & tools
- Demonstrated effective written communication skills, including creating, composing, formatting, and editing a variety of written materials
- Intermediate interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively on a team and with a wide range of individuals in the AFN, First Nations partners and other external stakeholder
- Demonstrated organizational and coordinating skills
- Demonstrated sound judgement, tact, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently & expeditiously, including working under tight timeframes and competing priorities
- English is the working language although the ability to communicate effectively in French or an Indigenous language is an asset.

Responsibilities:
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is seeking skilled and experienced Administrative Support who will be responsible for performing all general office work, clerical duties, data storage, collection, and processing necessary information for the effective operation of the Environment Sector.
Reporting to the Director, the Administrative Support will have the following key duties and responsibilities:
- Serves as a point of contact for information to and from the Sector.
- Prepares reports, written correspondence, and communication with a wide range of internal and external contacts.
- Organizes and maintains accounting files, sector files, records and data bases.
- Oversees meeting preparation, including minute taking, coordination, booking and scheduling.
- Oversees travel arrangements for sector staff, members of Chiefs Committees and technical working groups including flight booking, hotel confirmations and rental car confirmations.
- Prepares and completing cheque requisitions, purchase orders, travel expense claims for staff and committee members of the Health Sector
- Participates in special projects as needed.
- Attends and takes notes at Chiefs-in-Assembly (Annual General Assembly and Special Chiefs Assembly) meetings held twice annually as required.
- Conducts other duties as assigned by the Director.
