ABOUT US:

The Admissions department of the Division of Strategic Enrolment Management is responsible for planning and managing undergraduate admissions for all direct entry programs at the University. Admissions maintains expertise in current research and best practice in admission policy and process and is responsible for providing information and advice to undergraduate divisions concerning the admission process. It further acts as a resource to divisional committees.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum four (4) years relevant experience in a high volume admissions environment, preferably a university or college institution
  • Direct experience in counselling students in admissions to undergraduate, first-entry divisions
  • Experience conducting presentations/workshops/training sessions to external and internal attendees
  • Experience interpreting and applying the University and with education systems worldwide, admissions policies and requirements for all undergraduate programs as well as general university policies
  • Experience with document management systems
  • Advanced computer skills must include word processing, creating and manipulating spreadsheets, posting to and navigating websites, creating PowerPoint presentations
  • Knowledge institutional, government, agency and department policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to effectively provide information and advice to staff, students, and general public – individually or in group settings (i.e. one-on-one or group session and/or workshops)
  • Strong student service orientation: tact and diplomacy in dealing with students and students’ family members, relate well with a diverse student population, at times address an upset or irate student, maintain confidentiality in working with student information
  • Ability to adapt to new procedures quickly and accurately
  • Must be able to use independent judgment and discretion when processing applications and responding to enquiries
  • Ability to work in a high volume environment and ability to work well under pressure

Responsibilities:

  • Advising potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and processes by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences

  • Providing detailed explanations of admissions decisions
  • Analyzing statistical information to inform admissions projections and planning activities
  • Providing formal job-related training
  • Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance
