OPPORTUNITY

MacEwan University is seeking an Advance Theatre Technician for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications.
Drawing from their extensive knowledge of live events through their experience as a Theatre Technician, the Advance Technician will be responsible for gathering technical requirements and devising a schedule for the run of event (in consultation with the client). This position will generate an internal quote and ensure all the information is collected and available for the Theatre Technicians who are working on the event. This position will liaise with other MacEwan departments, clients and external vendors to ensure event needs are met. This position may assist with scheduling of casual Technicians.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Initiating technical advances with the client and preparing the advance information for each event;
  • Using past event information as well as new information from the technical requirements forms to understand client needs and scheduling;
  • Updating internal schedules and information repositories to ensure relevant information is shared among stakeholders;
  • Reading and understanding stage plots and technical riders and translating that information into equipment and labour needs and costs;
  • Receiving event requests from Conference and Event Services;
  • Communicating with internal and external clients to understand the technical requirements of their event; and
  • Coordinating information from the Room Booking software, the Music and Theatre Departments and Conference and Event Services to keep the technical schedule up to date and regularly check for new events.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Exceptional organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • The ability to work with little supervision and also as a member of a team;
  • A solid understanding of business software like Microsoft Office and Google Drive; and
  • The ability to use CAD software would be considered an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a diploma in Theatre Production or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years working as an entertainment technician (preferably in audio) in a mid-sized regional or larger venue.
  • A minimum of 3 years of technical advance duties in a mid-sized or larger regional venue or equivalent.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
