Description:

Alongside the 4 Sub-specialties available, there is also the option of undertaking an Academic Fellowship, with on-call duties and an element of elective clinical work incorporated as part of the role. Whether this can be counted towards CCT will depend on the applicants specific circumstances, and therefore applicants are strongly encouraged to contact us in advance in this regard. The overall benefits of the Fellowships include, amongst others: Become a true expert in a subspecialist area of anaesthesia Development of technical and non-technical skills through recurrent exposure to challenging cases Integration into regular theatre teams, within a friendly, supportive department Dedicated time to develop non-clinical practice, for the benefit of the Fellow, the department, and our patients An opportunity to submit work for presentation at national and international meetings, as well as submission for publication On-call experience in the relevant sector (subject to service requirements) Each Fellowship will have a Fellowship Supervisor to provide both clinical and non-clinical guidance. The structure of the Clinical Fellowships are based around the 2021 RCoA Anaesthesia Curriculum, which enables HALOs to be completed during the Fellowship.
As 50-60% of the time would be spent undertaking clinical practice in the chosen subspecialist area, assuming the Fellow achieves the desired competencies, the relevant HALO can be completed as part of the SIA training. The remaining part of the SIA curriculum can be achieved by completing one of the other non-clinical domains: Management and Professional and Regulatory Requirements Safety and Quality Improvement Education and Training Research and Managing Data Any other additional training requirements that need to be completed as part of SIA training, will still apply for example Multiple Trainer Reports. Should the prospective applicant be post-CCT, or not wish to count the Fellowship towards their training time, these educational sign-off specifics will not necessarily apply
