Description:
There is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding and evolving Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) with the Orthogeriatric department at Morriston Hospital. The department has seen an increase in clinical and administrative personnel in line with national priorities to improve access to FLS across Wales. This has led to increasing the department’s scope to improve access to specialist Orthogeriatric care for a greater number of fragility fractures.
Fragility fractures, namely hip fractures, cause significant and lasting physical and mental impact on patients and their wellbeing. There is also a significant burden for healthcare providers and their families following such injuries as many patients fail to return to previous levels of function or independence. Strategies to reduce the incidence of fragility fractures and specifically hip fractures will have a dramatic impact on patients with additional benefits seen across health and social care.
The post holder will actively contribute to the daily managing of inpatient femoral / neck of femur fractures with the Orthogeriatric team. This will include identifying of new femoral fractures to prioritise their care in line with national recommendations.
The post holder will also be involved in identifying, managing, and co-ordinating the care of other fragility fractures from inpatient and outpatient settings. This will include close working with the Orthogeriatric clinicians, administrative teams and directly with patients and community care services to ensure timely review, investigation, and treatment of patients with fragility fractures.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
