Do you have a passion for the Advanced Manufacturing industry? Invest Mississauga is looking for an Advanced Manufacturing Business Consultant to build and promote a platform to enable future growth of the Advanced Manufacturing sector through collaboration, partnership, and program development across the City.
Reporting to the Manager, Business Investment and Sector Development, and as a key member of the Sector Development team, you will provide leadership and support Invest Mississauga in developing and implementing initiatives that will achieve and advance the City’s objectives in the Advanced Manufacturing sector.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- University or College degree required; Relevant focus including Science, Engineering, Business preferred. A relevant graduate degree, or applicable combination of education and work would be considered an asset.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in one or more of Mississauga’s Advanced Manufacturing Sectors: Aerospace, Automotive, Food & Beverage and Cleantech.
- Thorough knowledge of manufacturing sector trends, including relevant legislation and policies impacting economic growth and competition at the local, regional, provincial, and national levels.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders, including the local business community, industry associations, and other partners.
- Familiar with government programs and resources that support workforce development, improve productivity, innovation, supply chains, and export readiness, including Lean practices and technology adoption in manufacturing.
- Strategic thinker, integrator, and leader to take innovative ideas through to implementation.
- Ability to work collaboratively and in self-organizing teams to achieve common goals.
- Excellent organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills.
- Deep analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information into verbal briefings, presentations and/or written reports.
- Political acuity to work with elected officials at the municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
- An understanding of how government works including Canadian provincial and federal governments.
- Competent use of common office and desktop tools including word processors, presentation software, spreadsheets, CRM, and an ability to quickly adopt new technology as required.
- Ability to travel within the City and provide own transportation.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 86,858.00 - $ 115,812.00

Responsibilities:
- Develop a vision, strategy, plans and action to transform and elevate Mississauga’s manufacturing sector into a sustainable, innovative, and globally competitive force.
- Foster collaboration among industry and support organizations to strength connectivity and drive local supply chain development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups to advance Invest Mississauga’s strategic priorities.
- Provide confidential client services to help businesses implement lean practices, disruptive innovation, and technology to improve manufacturing processes.
- Advise local and potential businesses on industry trends, competiveness, workforce training, growth opportunities, regulatory and policy issues.
- Guide newer companies with growth potential through mentorship and connections with regional and senior government programs and other resources.
- Explore and develop partnerships to grow the Mississauga Advanced Manufacturing cluster.
- Design and deliver presentations on sector issues for stakeholder groups including council, businesses, industry associations and other.
- Represent Invest Mississauga on intergovernmental, regional, and other working groups, provincial forums, conferences and working teams
- Monitor budget and recommend expenditures for new initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Coordinate participation at domestic and international trade shows, conferences, and other events to promote Mississauga’s advanced manufacturing sector to local, national, and international businesses and delegations and investors.
- Support the investment sales team in promoting Mississauga’s manufacturing sector.
- Occasional evening and weekend work, as well as domestic and international travel may be required.
