Description:

A fundamental part of the ANP role will be to undertake routine advanced physical assessment of the day care SACT patients including assessing these patients prior to each treatment using thorough history taking, clinical examination, arranging relevant investigations (e.g. blood tests, radiographs), prescribing SACT and other supportive medications. The ANP will also have skills in the early detection and intervention of clinical deterioration in existing or new medical conditions. The post is intended to provide improved outcomes for patients by improving services and quality. You will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and make critical judgements to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role working within the guidelines of agreed clinical protocols. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and you will be required to have extensive post registration experience in oncology / haematology care.
The post holder will ideally have completed an MSc in advanced clinical practice however applications will be considered from suitable candidates who have commenced the level 7 pathway and be willing to continue level 7 studies towards a qualification in advance practice. Applicants must hold a minimum of degree and ideally a clinical examination course. Non-medical prescribing is key part of the role and participants without this qualification must be willing to undertake.
Clinical leadership to the nursing teams, maintaining credibility through practice and provide a high quality and safe patient service, which exceeds patient expectations .
Routine management of the day care patients assessing them for systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT) and supportive therapies.
Using advanced clinical decision making and assessment skills, prompt treatment plans or referrals will be initiated to effectively manage acute and chronic cancer-related complications and/or toxicities from systemic anti-cancer treatments and/or radiotherapy.
Assess and appropriately manage unwell and deteriorating patients to stabilise and transfer patients appropriately.
Telephone triage of patients reporting side-effects / complications.

Presenting and attending PPMDU Consultant rounds – preparing SACT clinic and Outpatient lists in conjunction with the team.
To provide support and advice to nursing, medical and allied health professional’s therapy staff in relation to the management of the SACT patient.
To provide support and advice to patients and their carers relating to their chemotherapy and any procedures.
To obtain informed consent from patients prior to starting their first chemotherapy cycle and ongoing cycles
