Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

An opportunity has come up in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for an Advanced Research Fellow to carry out advanced research, teaching and enterprise activities in support of the Head of Department.
The post will involve coordinating the Department’s research effort in the space sector and societal resilience, leading on the Department’s contribution to the UK government’s formulation and delivery of its national space strategy, business development and developing/delivering related teaching.
This is a full-time post for one year in the first instance.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING

In collaboration with the School of Convergence Science (Space, Security and Telecom), carry out research on the role of space in the acquisition and operation of critical national infrastructure, including developing a personal programme of research, managing research projects, developing research proposals and successful funding bids.
In collaboration with the Institute for Security, Science and Technology (ISST) and the Centre for Active Resilience and Security (CARS), plan and lead research on societal resilience to address the five threat vectors of natural/bio, social, environmental, cyber and physical.
Identifying opportunities in the education, research and development and consultancy sectors is an important part of the role, together with leading on the formulation of the relevant programmes and how they are to be delivered.
You will also teach and examine courses to all levels: undergraduate, master’s and higher research degrees, through lectures, seminars, course work, tutorials and personal supervision.
