Description:

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Advanced Specialist Orthoptist, Lead Clinical Tutor at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Trust’s main two sites are Ashford Hospital and St. Peter’s Hospital and we also provide services at Woking Community Hospital. Day case surgery takes place in dedicated theatres at Ashford Hospital with Paediatric and other selected surgeries at St Peter’s Hospital. We are a forward looking department with a team of 19 medical staff including 2 with an interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Motility.
To provide high quality Orthoptic care as an autonomous advanced practitioner. To assess, diagnose and manage all categories of patients referred to the Orthoptic service provided by Ashford and St.Peter’s Hospitals (ASPH) NHS Foundation Trust.
To be the Orthoptic department’s education service lead for the education of pre-registration Optometrists, medical students, trainee GPs, Nurses and AHPs. They will also mentor newly appointed junior Orthoptic staff including preceptorship of Orthoptists within the department.
To share the Orthoptic Team Leader Role with other band 7.

The department is an accredited clinical undergraduate Orthoptic training centre; the post holder will develop and lead the Orthoptic undergraduate placements within the department. The post holder will be their mentor and clinical supervisor. The post holder will be required to undertake a significant amount of clinical teaching, create student timetables, conduct student induction, deliver formative and summative student feedback as required (see attached job description for more details.
