Job Summary:
Johnson & Johnson MedTech Neurovascular is recruiting for a Advanced Technologies R&D Manager in Galway Ireland.
The Advanced Technologies R&D Manager will be responsible for providing technical leadership in prototyping and early process development, test lab operations and is an integral part of the design and development of vascular stroke technologies.
2025 will see exciting expansions in our prototyping lab space and testing capability which will need to be managed in terms of prototype lines set-ups, equipment identification and qualification. This role will manage the efficient operation of all test labs, concept and GxP testing and EH&S requirements.
The Advanced Technologies R&D Manager will support new project development (NPD), design changes to current projects (LCM/Sustaining) leveraging previous experience on product & process development. The role will enable process technology for new products through a combination of in-house prototyping and working with external suppliers.
The responsibilities and the impact YOU will have:
- Lead prototype and lab engineers/technicians for equipment commissioning, validations, maintenance, calibration and process development studies.
- Manage technical project resources as required, including responsibility for goal setting, performance reviews, identify and support development needs.
- Provide leadership to wider R&D teams in the development of new processes, building and testing of prototypes, testing, data analysis and interpretation, component and finished device assembly drawings/specifications, product materials selection, and process development.
- Ensure test labs are GxP compliant in terms of equipment, fixtures and daily operations.
- Assessment of current and emerging process technologies for suitability for application to the development of interventional medical devices, including catheters and delivery systems.
- Develop expert knowledge on emerging technologies to support implementation and adoption into the wider organization.
- Be the subject matter expert and provide technical leadership for all activities related to early stage prototype and process development to influence the design team on concept and design development.
- Ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) is considered at the concept stage balancing device performance/differentiation with a long-term view on manufacturability, including cost and yield.
- Working in conjunction with internal and external manufacturers, support design characterization studies.
QUALIFICATIONS
We would love to hear from YOU, if you have the following essential requirements:
Qualifications –
- Qualification in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
- Project management qualification an advantage
Experience and skills –
- Significant experience in the interventional medical device industry with experience of technical leadership, and prior product development experience.
- People management experience.
- Strong catheter design, process development and technical ability is essential, based on a solid foundation of fundamental engineering principles. Strong work ethic and creative problem solver.
- Understanding of test equipment, maintenance and calibration programs.
- Deep understanding of Design Control Systems, CFR 820 and ISO 13485 quality system requirements.
- Working knowledge of statistical techniques.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills essential
Location & Travel
- This role will be an onsite role based in Galway, Ireland with flexible work arrangements from time to time in agreement with management and per the J&J Flexible Work policy.
- As part of a global company, travel will be required from time to time, up to 15%
