POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Globe and Mail is seeking an Advice and Service editor to join our Life and Culture team.
This position requires a passion for chasing, developing and curating a roster of informed experts who can answer the burning questions readers require answers for to succeed in their everyday lives.
The columns will help solve the various communication issues that surface as a parent, worker, employee, manager, friend, sibling, adult child, pet lover and more. This role will help establish The Globe as a trusted source that helps readers navigate modern life at work, at home, at play and online.
The successful candidate will be a mindful editor who enjoys a spirit of collaboration with the chosen experts. This role requires a talent for finding and analyzing current social trends and modern etiquette, in real life and online, to both reflect and inform our coverage. It also offers the chance to help build and execute a strategic vision for advice and service journalism at The Globe.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years experience in an editing and assigning role
  • Previous experience working with life and features content
  • Passion for treating service journalism as rigorously as any other journalistic work

    SALARY: This position is classified as an Assistant Editor in Group AA of the Editorial Collective Agreement.

VACCINATION POLICY:

All offers of employment with The Globe and Mail are conditional upon the candidate being Fully Vaccinated. Responsibilities:

  • Assign staff and freelance writers to a range of topics related to how we live
  • Build a roster of subject-matter experts
  • Work with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to brainstorm story ideas as well as the best way to tell them
  • Manage freelance budget
  • Use audience data to inform coverage and topic areas
