Description:

REMOTE WORK:

This is a hybrid remote work position in Calgary Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social science/health-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Professional designation such as RRP, CRTWC, CDMP, or related is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of related professional experience in Disability Management, including return to work planning and rehabilitation practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (Human Rights, Workers’ Compensation Act, Privacy Legislation).

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong understanding of disability case management and employee rehabilitation processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and the ability to interpret and apply corporate policies, STD/LTD contracts, and collective agreements.
  • Knowledge of medical conditions, treatments, disability duration guidelines, and medical terminology.

Responsibilities:

  • Disability Claims Management: Oversee the management of WCB, STD/LTD, and medical leave files, including requests for accommodation. Confirm medical work restrictions and ensure safe and effective return-to-work plans for employees.
  • Return to Work Activities: Develop and implement return-to-work plans by confirming medical work restrictions and identifying appropriate modified duties. Collaborate with team members to ensure successful reintegration of employees into their roles.
  • Consulting and Providing Expert Advice: Offer guidance on disability management practices and legislation. Provide training and education to management and employees on disability management standards and procedures.
  • Coordination with External Parties: Liaise between employees, healthcare professionals, benefits providers, and associations/unions to support employees throughout the disability management process.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Maintain and update the disability management practices manual to reflect current company policy, legislation, and professional ethics.
