Description:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for reviewing accounting policies and business unit operations to determine the accounting and tax treatment for assigned entities within the Calgary Tax Services Department with some degree of independence.
  • This includes income tax compliance as well as quarterly and annual financial reporting of taxes.
  • Income tax compliance tasks include timely and accurate preparation of federal and provincial income tax returns including, but not limited to, partnership returns, trust returns, foreign affiliate and other non-resident forms for all the assigned companies.
  • Determine the appropriate impact of transactions on the adjusted cost base (ACB) calculations for assigned entities and support the tax planning function need for information. Maintains adequate supporting documentation. This includes updating and maintaining the related “ACB SharePoint” site.
  • Assists with foreign tax filings, instalment computation and remittance, notice of assessment, W-8BEN-E and W9 process.
  • Assists in the preparation and evaluation of ad-hoc requests within the Calgary Tax Services Department as well as presenting results to other internal partner groups such as the Controllers Department, Treasury, Business Development and Legal.
  • Prepare tax research and contribute to any memos or presentations regarding changes in tax legislation, jurisprudences, assessing policies and changes in tax accounting standards.
  • Assists with federal and provincial income tax audits as it relates to entities in the Calgary Tax Services Department. Compile and prepare documentation as requested by the auditors and prepare responses to audit queries. Ensure positive and professional relationship with all taxing authorities.
  • Participates in internally developed training programs and is dedicated to continuous development of income tax and tax accounting skills.

  • Due to critical deadlines and the business environment the workload can be demanding and requires the ability to optimally handle conflicting priorities
