In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Advisor, Work Design & Compensation is an integral member of the Work Design and Compensation (WD&C) team that provides subject matter expertise, knowledge and support on compensation and classification related matters in partnership with the Specialists. Areas of focus include non-contract and bargaining unit job evaluation systems and processes, non-contract and bargaining unit compensation, research and benchmarking, compiling and synthesizing data, costings and analysis, reporting, and project planning and monitoring; functions as the WD&C super-user for related systems.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related, plus a minimum of three (3) years of recent related experience in a large and complex organization including experience working in an unionized environment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong analytical, investigative, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Possesses technical competency and systems thinking.
- Proven ability to perform research, analyze and synthesize information, produce reports and costings, and draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize related equipment and computerized software packages such as the Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Excel skills required.
- Fosters open and respectful relationships with colleagues, management and unions that contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exhibits thoroughness, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of standard HR policies and practices, bargaining unit collective agreement language related to wages and classification, and non-contract role evaluation and compensation framework.
- Ability to work with salary, payroll and timekeeping data.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
- Ability to coordinate projects, prepare project timelines and planning documents, monitor and report on progress for multiple projects.
- Proven ability to determine and accomplish objectives, set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Extremely organized with excellent time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and with changing priorities.
