We are looking for a Consultant to join our fast-growing Advisory Services team, known in the industry for advising and delivering some of the most innovative and transformative transport infrastructure projects in Canada and the US. Our team continues to grow, and we are keen to engage with experienced individuals from a Management Consulting, Engineering, Planning, Economics or other related technical backgrounds with a broad skillset and an ambition to accelerate their career in the Transport and Infrastructure sectors.
The role will be to lead and manage client engagements providing strategic, economic, technical, and commercial advice related to the planning, development, funding/financing, and procurement of transport and major public infrastructure projects. You will be working with public agencies and private sponsors to develop projects and programs from inception to start of construction. Projects may range from due diligence to market assessments, business cases and feasibility studies. The role will involve identifying the material risks & opportunities to project sponsors, and to present them in a way in which our clients are able to understand the impact on their business plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, economics, or commerce. Preferred master’s degree in business administration, project management and/or finance
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in the development of transportation or infrastructure projects, in particular in the rail/transit, highway, or aviation sectors.
  • A track-record of coordination across different discipline teams and skillsets.
  • Quantitative and analytical skills for cost-benefit analysis, economic impact analysis, and/or financial modelling.
  • Knowledge of the commercial and procurement aspects of public-private partnerships and project financing transactions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including effective communication through reports, correspondence, and presentations in English. Candidates with the ability to communicate effectively in French is an asset.
  • Interest in providing professional development or mentorship to colleagues;
  • Strong interest for sustainable development and shaping a better world in line with Arup’s values.
  • The ability to work in one of our Canadian offices (i.e., Toronto, Montreal, Calgary), and a willingness and capacity to travel to suit our client’s needs (both domestic and international travel).

Responsibilities:

  • Lead or support the development of business cases, market assessments, or feasibility assessments for transport and major public infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare strategies, recommend optimal project delivery methods, and develop procurement processes for successful project delivery from early-stage planning through financial closing, construction, and operations.
  • Review and develop economic impact analysis, cost-benefit analysis, financial projections, value for money assessments, and financial models for infrastructure project financing transactions, including risk identification, allocation, and assessment.
  • Lead client and stakeholder interface activities such as meetings, presentations, and workshops maintaining proactive communications.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues leveraging the technical multi-disciplinary technical expertise across the firm to provide quality advice to our clients
  • Manage multiple client engagements at any given time by leveraging internal and external resources across multiple disciplines.
  • Develop and mentor junior staff to develop analytical and consulting skills.
  • Support pre-positioning activities for future work and proposal preparation.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external networks, including client relationships.
