Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) is a leading product development partnership (PDP) in the field of antimalarial drug research and development. Its mission is to reduce the burden of malaria in disease-endemic countries by discovering, developing and delivering new, effective and affordable antimalarial drugs.
Over the past 25 years, MMV has worked with an extensive network of donors, private and public sector partners, experts and clinical centers in endemic countries to develop an outstanding portfolio of antimalarial projects.
Our portfolio is financed through funding support coming from government agencies, private and corporate foundations, international organizations, corporations and private individuals.
We are looking for a talented graduate to join the Advocacy team for a one year internship which offers the opportunity to learn a variety of advocacy, activities in an exciting business environment.
In providing support to the advocacy team, the Intern will gain a global overview of advocacy processes unique to a PDP and will acquire experience in supporting the implementation of advocacy strategies, activities and tools. The intern will also support the team’s administrative tasks.
In consultation with relevant advocacy team members, tasks include:
Support daily administrative tasks, such as updating the advocacy calendar of events; setting internal and external meetings, defining meeting agendas and taking minutes; and organizing advocacy inductions for new staff.
Provide research for and assist with the development of advocacy key messages to be included in position papers, presentations, website content, social media strategies, brochures, reports or other advocacy and communications tools.
Help organize advocacy events, e.g. supporting with logistics, invitation lists and letters, or attendance reports.
Attend external meetings with partners, e.g. PDP funders group meetings, and report back.
Update MMV-supported websites as needed.
Assist with other duties in ADV as requested.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completed or working towards a university degree in International Relations (preferably) or related field.
- Experience in global health/ development issues
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Fluency in English (oral and written); working ability in French would be an asset
- Good proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience working with websites would be an asset.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
BEHAVIOURAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Cultural awareness and sensitivity in working with diverse and international teams.
Well organized, detail-oriented approach to work: an ability to meet deadlines and handle competing demands, combined with precision and thoroughness in carrying out research and administrative tasks is key to success in this role.
Flexible and able to handle frequent changes
Starting date: 15 January or early February 2025
