Job Description
Introduction:
HarperCollins is looking for an Affiliate Publisher to join the UK 360 business unit, a global publishing and distribution initiative within HarperCollins. Harper360 is responsible for the distribution, marketing, publicity, and sales of HarperCollins US, UK, Canada, Australia/New Zealand and India titles into the UK marketplace.
The position is responsible for sales, distribution, and logistics for HarperCollins Christian and HarperCollins Focus titles into the HarperCollins UK systems and the UK market.
The Affiliate Publisher role is the “bridge” between HCCP/HCF and HCUK and acts as brand champion for the full range of HCCP/HCF titles within the HCUK business unit and the UK market.
Core responsibilities:
+ Head the HarperCollins Christian Publishing distribution and sales business in the UK.
+ Lead and manage a team consisting of: Sales Manager and Sales and Marketing Executive. Develop and lead team to deliver on team revenue and profit targets.
+ Overall responsibility for sales targets for the HCCP-UK. Develop and manage the business plan and sales strategy to ensure attainment of HCCP sales growth and profitability targets.
+ Grow market share of the UK Christian market valued at roughly £183 million (Nielsen last report 2011) and growing, through the distribution, marketing, publicity, and sales of HarperCollins Christian US titles into the UK market (both for physical and digital content).
+ Publishing planning and execution:
o Responsible for the comprehensive list of HCCP titles sold in the UK market and all agreed budgets.
o Set overall vision for the HCCP list in the UK. Develop strategic sales, publishing plans and initiatives for the division.
o Curate the HCCP list in a way that benefits the author, customers, Christian ministries and HCCP Corporate, across all HCCP genres.
o Plan the publishing schedule and processes. This includes (but is not limited to) title curation, supply chain planning, forecasting, production planning, inventory management and sales planning of physical and digital titles.
+ Overall management of UK Christian accounts (CBA) and assign sales manager their own set of accounts. Increase sales and brand awareness in the UK.
+ Management of sales representative’s relationships on HCCP titles to drive sales growth. Oversight of general trade accounts (ABA) when it comes to HCCP list by working closely with HCUK sales reps and build successful customer relationships.
+ Integrate the HCCP list into HCUK’s regular systems.
+ Manage the extensive growing backlist of imported titles in physical, eBook and POD format.
+ Ensure HCCP-UK becomes a trusted supplier of Christian content and media through clear market leadership and market share growth.
+ Ensure HCCP-UK is a clear player and thought leader that influences readers, churches, Christian associations, consumers, and the UK Christian community at large. Build and maintain relationships across UK Christian community and industry calendar events such as but not limited to: the Salvation Army, Alpha, Church of England, Evangelical Alliance, and others.
+ Ambassador for the HCCP business in the UK both with internal and external stakeholders.
+ Build effective networks with the HCUK teams, especially the sales functions and Glasgow warehouse functions.
+ Manage preparation and follow-through for all seasonal sales meetings (MOFO), including book launches and events, forecasting, channel development, pre-sales meetings, global sales and local conferences participation, and all follow-up from thesemeetings.management
+ Build effective supply chain processes and systems between the HCCP sales and distribution functions (Glasgow/Plainfield/forwarders) to make inventory management and sales forecasting as efficient as possible.
+ Work across all levels of the organisation, building and maintaining strong, key relationships to enable HCCP’s growth.
+ Work closely with HCCP publishers in the US to better sell the HCCP product. Launch new titles, working to key timelines and profit targets.
Experience required:
+ Experience of working in a sales environment within publishing#
+ Experience of high levels of administration within a busy environment
+ Experience leading and managing others.
+ Experience of communicating clearly and effectively with internal and external contacts at all levels
+ Commercial awareness.
Industry Knowledge:
+ Familiarity with the publishing industry
