Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Afterschool Coordinator at Penobscot Bay YMCA provides a safe, nurturing and positive environment for children and parents in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 21 years of age.
- High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in an afterschool or school setting preferred.
- Completion of CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training. (We will provide this training)
- Demonstrated level of maturity to handle the responsibilities involved in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for all participants.
- Ability to evaluate and monitor afterschool programs, solve problems and make sound judgments/decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Works daily in the afterschool program at the designated program site.
- Leads staff at the program site to ensure safety and high quality programming, which includes daily physical activity and a healthy snack each day.
- Coordinate afterschool staff schedules for the site, plan monthly curriculum which should include daily STEM or art enrichment activities. A STEM activity should be planned at least two per week.
- Manage all communication with parents, including a weekly parent email or newsletter. A STEM activity should be planned at least two per week.
- Ensure roster for the program is up to date and accurate daily attendance sheets are kept.
- Ensure incident and occurrence forms are filled out and consistently signed by parents.
- Ensure late slips are given to parents that are late more than once.
- Ensure all Afterschool sites consistently meet all necessary state licensing requirements.
- Assures compliance with YMCA, and DHHS regulations as they relate to childcare. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
- Trains, schedules and directs part-time afterschool staff and volunteers as needed.
- Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment.
- Manage program to meet the budget.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings and relevant training as required by the YMCA, DHHS.
- Assume all other responsibilities as deemed necessary or assigned.
