POSITION SUMMARY:
The After-School Program Assistant will provide support in the provision of education and development services to children ages 5 -12 and will be part of the Community Services team working specifically in the Early Years department.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Responsible Adult Certification required (must be completed prior to end of probation period)
- Early Childhood Educator (ECE) certification, ECE Assistant status, or education student preferred
- Experience working with FASD, Autism, Behaviour Intervention, ADHD, etc. considered an asset.
- Early Childhood Educator experience considered an asset; Experience working with children ages 5-12 preferred
- Food Safe Certificate (preferred)
- Experience working within First Nation Communities with Families and Children considered an asset
- An equivalent combination of education & experience may be considered
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid First Aid with Child CPR
- Acceptable Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector search to be obtained through the province
- Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving abstract
- Evidence of level of compliance with the BC provincial tuberculosis and vaccine programs required by licencing
- 2 Character References
- Proof of Immunization Records
- Other documentation as requested/required by the licensing agency
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- WFN Member preferred
- Knowledge of Westbank First Nation community
- Working knowledge of support services in the community
- Demonstrated knowledge of child development
- Demonstrated facilitation skills
- Ability to create projects to deliver to the children
- Ability to introduce cultural activities (preferred)
The minimum starting salary for this position is: $43,469

Responsibilities:
- Plans and delivers program activities to the children as directed
- Prioritizes the wellbeing of the children
- Applies and maintains prescribed safety and health standards as outlined in licensing policies
- Prepares nutritious snacks for the children Promotes a fun, healthy, and safe environment
- Maintains related program records such as Attendance, Fire Drill, and Incident reports • Follows policies and procedures as outlined by the Ministry in accordance with prescribed licensing policies
- Liaises with caregivers in a professional manner
- Prepares standardized updates and reports as required
- Updates professional qualifications as prescribed in a timely manner
- Performs other duties as necessary in the performance of the position and as directed by the Out of School Supervisor or Early Years Manager
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Early Years Manager or designate
