KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

• Must hold a current State of Mississippi Teacher certification in the field of elementary education
• Preference for a Masters’ Degrees in Primary Education with extensive classroom experience
• Specialist Degree in Reading from MS State
• Knowledgeable of the MS curriculum and state standards
• Extensive experience and training (ie Early Childhood Specialized Training
• The Power of Language Training, Early Learning Language and Literacy Training.
• Experienced teachers at Vardaman Elementary, preferable

SKILLS / ABILITIES:

• A spirit of inclusiveness, empathy and acceptance, demonstrated through a willingness to work with and among children of all faith and ethnicities
• An ability to maintain confidentiality of program and agency information
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Computer literacy for effective communication
• Able to work with minimal supervision
• Bilingual skills in English / Spanish language preferable

• Develop relationships with the local elementary school instructors and administrators for coordination of monitoring quarterly progress and to better assist with work assignments
• Assist students in identifying problem areas through question and answer
• Use examples to demonstrate concepts and theories, providing opportunity for practice
• Make appropriate referrals to resources to help with study skills and daily homework
• Promote and support positive, active and independent learning
• Create an encouraging environment where learning takes place at the student’s pace
• Aid in developing academic competence and student confidence
• Ensure that parents are involved in student learning and that they understand the educational system in order to monitor academic progress
• Other duties as assigned
