ABOUT YOU:

  • Minimum 3 years’ people management experience in the transport industry
  • Team player, who can lead from the front, be hands-on and of the floor, and work with the wider business on improvements and best practices.
  • Ability to interface at intermediate level of computer literacy with Windows based Freight Management System (and including MS Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Strong written, verbal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Planning, scheduling and management skills
  • Knowledge & Experience with CoR, NHVAS, driver fatigue and Compliance relating to the transport industry.
  • Good understanding and application of budgeting and finance systems
  • Must have a good working knowledge of linehaul and local express transport
  • Resilience, passion, and ability to work to schedule with a strong focus on safety, continuous improvement and compliance.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate activities to provide efficient services.
  • A high level of motivation and energy with a strong focus on achieving outstanding customer experience results.
  • Focus on the continuous improvement of systems and processes.
  • A current Forklift License is a necessity along with an HC or MC License also an advantage.

Responsibilities:

Are you an experienced People/Team Leader with a transport operations background? This is hands on role that is in a dynamic and fast paced environment and is a pivotal part of our leadership team.
Based in Eastern Creek and reporting to the Operations Manager, the Afternoon Shift Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient and productive work environment, that ensures both our customers and team members can be at their best every day! Your great attitude, fast thinking and people leadership capabilities will be highly regarded. This is an exciting permanent opportunity, operating Monday to Friday, 1pm – 9pm.
During seasonal and peak periods, it is anticipated that additional hours will be worked as necessary to assist in strengthening operational support.

THE ROLE:

  • Ensure departing units and trailers are fully loaded and freight is accurately distributed
  • Manage the loading and unloading of PUD vehicles
  • Guide and supervise PM Forklift Operators and Receiving Officers
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and prioritise loading/unloading tasks
  • Adhere to safety and health regulations, load restraint procedures and minimise freight damages
  • Address issues related to revenue, loads, costs, and site operations
  • Assist with decisions regarding loading, rail vs. road transport, equipment availability, and scaling linehaul requirements based on volume fluctuations
  • Achieve set KPIs and targets
  • Manage performance and disciplinary actions
  • Daily management of the afternoon shift to achieve planned/budgeted KPIs, cost outcomes, safety measures, and service levels
  • Allocate labor resources, supervise, and manage costs
  • Ensure the efficient, safe, and secure loading, unloading, movement, and packing of freight
  • Work alongside truck drivers and operations support areas to ensure the operation of the shift runs according to plan
  • Lead, coach, and mentor direct reports, creating a customer-first culture that delivers great results
  • Effectively communicate with team members and key stakeholders
  • Perform quality checks on materials/stock and identify and report damages, shortages, or quality deficiencies
  • Inspect machinery including forklifts and other control equipment to determine the need for repairs and guarantee safety by performing regular maintenance in accordance with the site’s WHS practices
  • Keep updated records of inventory and activity logs
