Job Description
To service and help develop the current customer base in the North West Province and other areas where needed with the full scope of agricultural services offered by SGS NviroCrop.
- To gather, interpret and evaluate information about the chemistry, biology and physics of soils to inform and influence issues such as agricultural production, environmental quality, climate change, land remediation and biodiversity.
- To analyze maps showing precision agricultural data such as crop yields, soil characteristics, input applications, terrain, drainage patterns and field management history.
- To document and maintain records of precision agriculture information.
- To compile and analyze geospatial data to determine agricultural implications of factors such as soil quality, terrain, field productivity, fertilizers, and weather conditions.
- To identify sampling sites, using geospatial technology, for soil testing on characteristics such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content, pH, and micronutrients.
- To compare crop yield maps with maps of soil test data, chemical application patterns, or other information to develop site-specific crop management plans.
- To apply knowledge of government regulations when making agricultural recommendations.
- Developing new ways of servicing clients
- To Provide the entire spectrum of agricultural services to the customer – including but not limited to:
- In season crop inspections
- Leaf sampling, interpretation of results sheets and making recommendations.
- Crop scouting
- Pre-season soil profile evaluation
- Recommendation in tillage practices
- Recommendations in correcting soil fertility and ensuring optimal growth during growing season.
- Full knowledge of the Precision Gateway App and its capabilities and also be able to train and assist clients to use it to its full capabilities.
- Keeping up to date with developments in agriculture and related areas, as well as environmental issues and changes in legislation that may impact your work.
- Attending conferences to keep abreast of the latest development and to network with people in the profession and in related industries.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- B.Sc.Agric / B.Agric / B.Tech in Agriculture.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 year’s experience as an Agronomist or in Precision Farming Services
