Due to the expansion and growth they have achieved, they are looking for an experienced person to manage their agronomy team and assist in continuing to improve the farming system.
Responsibilities:
THE ROLE ITSELF?
This is an opportunity to join a fantastic farm services team. Your day to day activities in this role will include:
- Managing compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures in your work area by providing support, guidance and direction to staff, farm managers and contractors
- Organising and carrying out the collection of required samples, interpret, and make recommendations based on results and knowledge
- Advising the directors and farm managers on techniques for improving crop production, tree health, controlling disease, pests, and weeds, as well as nutrition improvements and management
- Maintaining a recording system for nutrition and spray applications
- Scheduling chemical and nutrition applications based on results and recommendations. Ensure these are performed as directed in conjunction with the farm manager
- Liaising with suppliers from chemical and fertiliser companies to order and maintain relevant stock
- Evaluating the information gained from the library trays and pack out data to either maintain or further improve fruit quality for each block
- Organising and managing weekly monitoring of pest and disease in avocados and mangoes
- Researching and implementing new techniques and management systems for improving post –harvest quality, orchard health and yield
- Engaging and working with consultants to improve orchard productivity, tree health and fruit quality
- Maintaining an understanding of current research and aid in implementing new production techniques in the business
- Writing reports as required to support the directors and other managers in the business
- Managing and developing individuals within the agronomy team
- Working closely with, and as part of, the management team to improve orchard productivity, tree health and fruit quality
WHAT KIND OF PERSON WILL FIT THE ROLE?
The perfect person for this role will have tertiary qualifications in agronomy, proven knowledge and experience in avocados, macadamias, mangoes or citrus production. As you will be managing an established farm team, it is extremely important that you have an ability to communicate, collaborate and lead.
