The mission of , whose central unit is implemented at Helmholtz Munich, is to enable the transfer of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into practice. Since its inception, the has been providing Machine Learning (ML) expertise to research scientists from Germany’s largest research organization, the Helmholtz Association, with great success. It is now broadening its scope to facilitate access to AI computing infrastructure and expertise for industry, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including start-ups.
To join our growing team, we are inviting applications for the position of “AI Consultant - Sustainable AI (f/m/x)”.
We offer you the unique opportunity to use your expertise in AI to push forward realworld applications in a vibrant international environment, with a focus on sustainability. You will be an active part of the AI consultant team, which already has extensive experience in the development of AI applications in science, thereby bridging the gap between academic research and industry applications.

Your tasks
- be a point of contact for questions related to ML/AI, for researchers and industry partners alike, and provide critical assessments of their projects
- benchmark state-of-the-art and emerging AI methods, including their energy consumption and carbon footprint and help mitigate them
- develop new methodologies to assess the sustainability of different AI use cases over the whole AI life cycle and publish them
- work closely with a team of talented scientists within Helmholtz Munich and the Helmholtz AI initiative
Your profile
- master or PhD degree in data science, computer science, mathematics or a related field
- track record of implementing applied AI pipelines in Python, ideally with large models, such as transformers or generative models
- strong interest for sustainability aspects, familiarity with AI in HPC environments is a plus
- high degree of autonomy, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with different stakeholders
- open and curious mindset with a strong team spirit
