Description:
The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT) is a major research-intensive Institute within Aston University holding over 60 research projects, funded externally by the UK Government, European Commission, Industry and Charity. This achievement is backed by a team of research project managers and administrators who support individual research grants, and AIPT’s enabling environment of information gathering and dispersion, teamwork, and collaborative research grant development. To oversee the implementation of a range of current research project and support the institute’s stream of future projects, AIPT is looking to recruit a Strategic Project Implementation Manager with additional focus on the development of new income-generating opportunities through research proposal writing.
The position will suit a candidate with in-depth knowledge of the UK and international research funding landscape, intimate working knowledge of the European Commission and Marie Sklodowska Curie legal frameworks, as well as long-standing, extensive and varied experience in managing large-scale collaborative research and innovation projects within academia and industry in both the UK and international context. Exceptional communication skills and demonstrable problem-solving abilities are essential for the role, as is an outstanding working knowledge of current audit requirements in EU Framework Programs and a proven track-record of successful scientific research grant writing.
You will hold a higher academic degree or equivalent professional qualification in a scientific discipline, along with certifications in management, leadership, and project management (e.g., ILM, CMI or similar). You will have worked in Higher Education amongst senior academic colleagues, all levels of administration (finance/legal/marketing/research knowledge transfer) as well as post-graduate students. You will have substantial experience in developing academic research proposals, managing budgets, and negotiating service contracts or project requirements. Experience in creating project communication strategies, organising large national and international events, and contributing at a senior level within an organisation is crucial. Knowledge of data analysis tools and experience in projects with industry are desirable. Having previously worked in an international academic setting and being able to communicate in at least one additional main European language will be desirable assets.
