As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks we are responsible for growing Alberta’s environmentally responsible wood products and forestry sector. We protect Alberta’s forests from wildfire and preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans. As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manages public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
A related two-year diploma plus 4 years related experience (Forestry or natural science degree are a preference).
Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered based on one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid class 5 driver licence or equivalent.
Assets:
- Related experience with Airtanker operations or relevant wildfire experience.

Responsibilities:
Are you interested in the Wildfire Response program within the forest operations Branch? Are you dedicated to fostering a safe and healthy work environment? As the Airtanker Base Program coordinator you would undertake a variety of responsibilities supporting the Alberta forestry and parks, along with its employees as well as adhering to the Alberta Public Service Values of Excellence, Integrity, Accountability, and Respect.
The primary focus of this position is the development and coordination of the Provincial Airtanker Base Program, aiming to enhance airtanker base operations across the province. This includes contributing to recruitment efforts and initiatives to improve retention. The role also requires readiness to respond to wildfire incidents and participate in on-call rotations as needed. The successful Candidate will work with minimal supervision and perform duties at the fully competent level of a Wildfire Technologist.
As the Airtanker Base Program Coordinator you will:
- Support the pre-suppression and suppression components of the Wildfire Response program by managing recruitment for provincial programs and providing mentorship to ensure safe and effective operations.
- Actively carry out a variety of roles to assist with the pre-suppression and suppression of wildfires within the province as required.
- Participate in the delivery of Provincial training as well as ongoing proficiency practice and field training as required.
- Lead and participate in spring start-up meetings and fall debrief with seasonal staff and contractors.
- Assist with Airtanker Base maintenance and improvement.
- Maintain and Improve the Provincial Airtanker Base Program.
- Assist with Provincial Contracts and Agreements.
- Ensure records are maintained in a timely and efficient manner and awareness of Provincial Policies and Procedures are followed.
