About PIMCO’s Alternatives Platform
PIMCO has developed a broad and robust alternatives platform over the past 15 years, with more than $145bn in AUM today. PIMCO has incorporated alternatives-specific talent and resources into the firm’s disciplined investment process and institutional infrastructure, which supports $1,8trn of AUM in total. PIMCO offers a diverse set of hedge fund, quantitative, alternative credit, private credit and real estate strategies that emanate from core PIMCO capabilities across credit, global macro, commodities, volatility and real estate.
PIMCO’s real estate investing activity spans all four quadrants of global real estate markets (public and private, debt and equity). In October 2020, PIMCO assumed the leadership and oversight of Allianz Real Estate. This partnership has created one of the world’s largest and most diversified commercial real estate platforms, managing more than $100 billion in core, core-plus, value-add and opportunistic real estate assets, both equity and debt, with a robust footprint across the US, EMEA and APAC.
Main focus/ Position responsibilities:
A key and well-established pillar of PIMCO’s business has been the Product Strategy group that sits between Portfolio Management and Account Management. The role of the Product Strategist group spans product development, structuring, distribution strategy, marketing, sales and investors reporting. The Alternative Strategy group performs this role exclusively for PIMCO’s alternative investment strategies. The London team, which has been in place for more than 10 years, is fully integrated into the global team, and also has geographic responsibility for developing and supporting the alternatives business in EMEA, spanning the full set of alternatives strategies.
A successful candidate will have a depth and breadth of experience and detailed knowledge in one or more of the following strategies: alternative credit, private credit, real estate or hedge funds.

While responsibilities are varied, it is expected that the Alternatives Strategist will focus efforts in the following areas:

  • Working with functional specialist groups across the firm to drive the further development of PIMCO’s alternatives business and range of offerings
  • Partner with business leaders and investment teams across PIMCO to execute on distribution strategy
  • Serve as a proxy for portfolio managers in speaking to clients and consultants about PIMCO’s alternatives strategies

Prior experience required:
The successful candidate will have extensive professional experience, a majority of which spent in alternatives, and an impressive track-record developing business. Deep knowledge of alternative investment strategies and private fund documentation, is a key requirement.
Strong presentation skills, both verbal and written are essential, as are abilities to navigate systems and work effectively in Excel. A solid grounding in fixed income and a CFA or similar qualification are important.
This professional will have specific alternatives industry knowledge and strong technical acumen, with an understanding of the investor landscape, though specific investor relationships are not required.

The ideal candidate will bring the following:

  • Strong communication skills required, with experience speaking credibly and clearly with regard to alternative investments
  • Exceptional work ethic, high personal standards, organized
  • Intelligence, a low-ego and an extremely driven and team-oriented collaborative approach
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures, functions and geographies
  • European language skills a positive, but not required

Leadership qualities:

  • Provide leadership for junior members of the team and gain respect from senior team and constituent peers
  • Confidence, competence and assertiveness working in a team environment with a range of highly intelligent, professionally driven and results-oriented professionals
  • Capable of articulating complex ideas, both verbally and in writing, clearly and in a straightforward manner
  • High emotional intelligence and humility in order to work with the firm’s internal stakeholders to ensure the business is executing on plan
  • Fits into PIMCO and adapts to the firm’s culture, bringing an appropriate level of credibility and resolve to the platform
