Description:

EDUCATION:

Diploma in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business, or Digital Communications. Knowledge of fundraising professional standards and ethics is an asset

EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years in the Communications field including:
writing documents such as publications, articles
producing digital and print communications pieces
producing multimedia communications (photographs, podcasts, social networking technologies). Related work experience in a non-profit sector is an asset.

SKILLS:

Demonstrated skills including:
Ability to write, edit and proofread at an advanced level in the English language
Impeccable accuracy in grammar, spelling and content verification
Excellent research and interview skills
Excellent oral communication skills
Ability to write and edit a broad range of communications and marketing pieces for publication
Tact, courtesy and discretion essential
Basic videography skills and ability to use digital SLR camera
Ability to work effectively under pressure of high volume and daily deadlines
Ability to handle diverse communications assignments- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
Ability to develop compelling communication pieces for a wide variety of audiences
Demonstrated computer skills including:
Advanced desktop publishing (QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign)
Advanced photo editing (Adobe Photoshop)
Advanced web design (HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, Wordpress)
Advanced word processing (MS Word)
Advanced presentation software (MS PowerPoint, Prezi)
Advanced email service providers (Mail Chimp, Exact Target, Campaign Monitor, Click Dimensions)
Advanced video publishing (YouTube)
Intermediate Google Analytics

  • Advancement Services & Operations is the administrative and technology support unit for all Advancement activities
  • Alumni Engagement provides programs, services, and engagement to over 350,000 York alumni worldwide
  • Development leads efforts to promote and secure philanthropic support from alumni, donors, friends, corporations, and foundations
  • Advancement Communications & Marketing works to promote and communicate alumni and donor messages along with direct marketing services for alumni and donor engagementOur mission is to inspire and cultivate meaningful engagement and philanthropic support within our diverse communities to advance York University’s excellence in education, research and community service. We accomplish our mission through our values of accountability, collaboration and entrepreneurship. Working in consultation with the Associate Director, Alumni Communications and staff within Division of Advancement, the incumbent writes, produces and disseminates communications materials for the Division of Advancement in order to encourage an environment of positive alumni and donor relations within the University and to engage the University’s growing community of alumni and donors, fostering a growing level of alumni and donor engagement with, and support for the University
