COMPUTING IS EVERYWHERE!

The experimental subatomic physics group at Chalmers prepares and performs experiments with radioactive nuclear beams. Sometimes at half the speed of light! The data obtained in such experiments need to be analysed. In all these aspects, specialised and dedicated software plays an important role.
Software developed and maintained by us is used in experiments at several labs internationally. The quality assurance and the development process use regression testing / continuous integration with rapid turn-around.
We are looking for motivated and creative students to help us continue build and maintain high-quality software.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We use GitLab CI, with Docker images, to perform testing on various Unix platforms (mostly GNU/Linux) and different computer architectures.
While overall functional, several Docker images we use in the CI setup need maintenance.
Image building is automated (naturally through Gitlab CI).
We place a high value on reasonably clean git commits.
The work can also - depending on interest - include other scripting tasks and addressing compiler warnings for more exotic platforms.
We are a small group currently with two senior researchers (professors), two PhD students, and two research engineers. We work with large (sometimes 100+ members) international collaborations. You would mostly interact with the research engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with:

• Docker images. (Building and use.)
• GitLab CI.
• Git
• Python
