The Team
The Data and Machine Learning division at Man Group is dedicated to ensuring the business can generate valuable insights from data. The team owns the sourcing and delivery of traditional and alternative data to our investment teams as well developing and supporting Man Group’s central data platform. The team is also responsible for development of generative AI tooling to drive innovation and accelerate business processes.
The function seeks to unlock the value in data by partnering with investment teams to source new and diversifying datasets and build scalable evaluation methods and insights on data. The Role
As an Analyst in our Data Sourcing and Strategy team you will use your specific and general skills to support Man’s investment teams in the acquisition of structured and unstructured third-party data from new sources. The Data Sourcing and Strategy team actively seeks unique, differentiated, and alpha-adding resources to be utilized by Man Group’s investment teams.
You should have a reasonable understanding and relevant experience with data governance and alternative data regulation. Your responsibilities will include scouting new alternative data sources, engaging with new and existing vendors, managing data vendor compliance and legal approvals, contract negotiations/re-negotiations and driving cost savings across the business. This will be delivered through a series of self-managed projects working closely with our data and investment teams.
Responsibilities
-

Develop a strong understanding of alternative data, the investment business process and help advance data strategies that are aligned with Man’s investment requirements.

  • Own the full lifecycle of data discovery by identifying data needs and opportunities, vetting new data sources, negotiating commercial terms, and managing vendor relationships.
  • Leverage data domain expertise and industry exposure to perform thorough data vendor comparison analysis including data integrity, coverage, and aggregation methodologies.
  • Manage the data trial and license processes through engagement with internal stakeholders such as researchers, portfolio managers, compliance and legal.
  • Negotiate with data vendors to obtain the best value terms and conditions for Man.
  • Streamline the alternative data vendor on-boarding process by developing new workflows and risk frameworks.
  • Support the business with any queries around data licensing and making appropriate commercial recommendations.
  • Assist with maintaining Man’s data catalogue and contracting databases.
  • Create and manage data reports, metrics, and dashboards.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2+ years’ experience in data research or alternative data experience with a buy/sell side firm or working as a relationship manager for a data vendor.
  • Broad knowledge of the alternative data landscape; including regulation and governance.
  • Experience in contract management, negotiating new/existing contracts or new products.
  • Proven relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Self-organised with the ability to effectively manage time across multiple projects and with competing business demands and priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
