The team
The Companies and Small Business team is the team primarily responsible for ASIC’s role in relation to the regulation and supervision of companies and small business to ensure sector adherence with the laws administered by ASIC and the promotion of market integrity.
The team’s role includes a focus on corporate governance conduct and disclosure, sustainable finance, and financial reporting and audit quality. The Companies and Small Business team conducts proactive surveillance, monitoring, considers applications for relief from legislative requirements, provides specialist support to regulatory reform activities, and actively engages with relevant stakeholders to understand and respond to current and emerging industry issues.
The roles
Responsibilities:
- Driving behavioural change in our regulated entities, promoting adherence with the law and better outcomes for consumers and investors, and supporting market integrity.
- Providing technical insights, observations and recommendations in relation to sustainable finance, climate change adaptation and/or mitigation, greenhouse gas emissions accounting, sustainability and/or climate change-related reporting, ESG analytics and/or sustainability assurance.
- Supporting the identification and implementation of effective regulatory strategies and interventions to improve consumer and investor outcomes and support market integrity.
- Identifying potential areas for law reform and assisting in law reform projects.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of ASIC’s sustainable finance strategy and in supporting of its delivery.
- Contributing to ASIC’s public messaging to educate and set expectations for our regulated populations that are proportionate to their size and market exposure, including the development and issuance of ASIC regulatory guidance
Please note that roles are available at ASIC4, EL1 and EL2 classification.
- ASIC4 – from $90,749 + 15.4% superannuation: candidates with minimum 3-5 years’ relevant experience.
- EL1 – from $118,925 + 15.4% superannuation: candidates with minimum 5-6 years’ relevant experience.
- EL2 – from $141,690 + 15.4% superannuation: candidates with minimum 7+ years’ relevant experience.

About you
- A relevant tertiary qualification (accounting, law, etc).
- Knowledge of the Australian financial services industry generally and specifically from a regulatory, product, operations, risk, or client service viewpoint.
- Experience in any or all sustainable finance, climate change adaptation and/or mitigation, greenhouse gas emissions accounting, sustainability and/or climate change-related reporting, ESG analytics and/or sustainability assurance.
- Experience analysing and considering the broader organisational, industry and environmental context to develop sound and practical solutions to interpreting and applying legislation.
- Experience in advising on complex transactions or projects requiring critical thinking and judgment gained working in the relevant industry, legal firm, or a regulatory environment.
- Detailed knowledge of, or the ability to readily acquire knowledge of the sector and the key issues influencing the sector.
- Demonstrating a strong understanding of ASIC’s regulatory environment.
