Description:

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is a regulatory agency that reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming, horseracing, and cannabis retail sectors in Ontario, in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.
The AGCO’s Procurement, Payroll and Administration Branch is looking for a seasoned Payroll and Benefits Administration Analyst (Analyst) to join their team. Reporting to the Manager, Payroll and Benefits Administration, the Analyst will ensure all payroll and benefits processing are completed timely and accurately. This includes processing payroll, payroll year-end, reconciliations, auditing and verifying payroll and benefits transactions and accounting for payroll and benefits. This position will also make recommendations on process improvement/streamlining opportunities for payroll, pension and benefits and work on special projects.
The Analyst will act as a subject matter expert on all payroll and benefits related activities to ensure that they are handled accurately, timely and with a customer-centric approach. This position will be an integral part of the Branch, working in collaboration with others and would serve as backup for the Manager, Payroll and Benefits Administration as required, in their absence.

We are looking for an individual who will complement our Team and who will have the necessary technical knowledge and skills to fulfill this important role.

Responsibilities:

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?The ideal candidate will have:

  • A certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is a must; a Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is an asset.
  • A university degree in Business, Accounting or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in payroll, benefits and pension administration.
  • Expert knowledge in payroll compliance and reporting in a unionized environment with defined benefit pension plans.
  • Expert knowledge of legislations affecting payroll and statutory and other requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll software applications with a strong ability to address / troubleshoot system issues with the payroll service provider. Experience with Dayforce is an asset.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures as related to payroll and benefits processing.
  • Solid experience with preparing, reconciling and analyzing G/L payroll accounts; general understanding of forecasting and budget processes.
  • Experienced with payroll year-end tax forms (T4s, T4As and T2200s) production, reconciliations and regulatory filings.
  • Sound knowledge of records management principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills to investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and management, internally and externally.
  • High level of discretion and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality with highly sensitive information.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check
