Job Summary:
The Pension Accounting team is primarily responsible for the execution and accounting of about $3.6 billion in pension benefit payments and $2.8 billion in member contributions per year. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Pension Accounting - Reporting and Analytics, the Analyst, Pension Accounting - Reporting and Analytics is mainly responsible for the preparation of all month-end and quarter-end reconciliations, attestation, and financial reporting with the aim of ensuring fund net asset value accuracy. The Analyst also supports the team in various modernization and business intelligence analytics initiatives as needed.
What you will do:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Execute month-/quarter-end close process, including posting all required journal entries, to ensure all pension accounting financial transactions are recorded completely, accurately and on a timely basis.
- Prepare month-/quarter-end attestation packages and variance analysis for Pension Accounting GL accounts. Prepare all lead sheets and reconciliations supporting the attestations.
- Prepare the quarterly net pension cash flow reporting draft for the Audit and Finance Committee
- Prepare reports to the Board of Trustees or as required by regulatory entities such as the Ministry of Finance.
- Prepare reports to support HOOPP legal entity tax compliance and filing requirements.
- Prepare annual employer contribution reports as requested by employers for external audit purposes.
- Document and maintain procedures governing the financial reporting process.
Governance & Controls
- Prepare and assemble support document for controls testing in scope under Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program as delegated.
- Assist with the organization and delivery of requested information to external auditors and respond to audit inquiries during the annual interim and year-end audits, as delegated.
- Evaluate processes for risk and implement mitigating report-based controls, as needed.
Data Analytics & Business Intelligence
- Prepare / maintain the data and support the development of various analytical Business Intelligence reporting and visualizations in support of operational effectiveness and business decision making, as delegated.
- Support the continued development and formal documentation of a robust data governance process and procedures internally on pension accounting data.
Process Modernization and IT System Maintenance
- Support and perform certain system upgrade testing as required.
- Perform regular database and BI tool maintenance tasks as required.
- Perform business analysis to assist the implementation of process automations in Pension Accounting using Robotic Process Automation, as required.
What you bring:
- University degree in Finance or Business.
- 2+ years’ finance industry experience.
- Knowledge with financial analysis and reporting and audit facilitation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Planner, Outlook).
- Knowledge with SQL and other database / BI tools (MS Access, Qlikview) an asset.
- Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented, organized, and thorough in managing deliverables.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to build relationship with team members and stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, highly focused, ability to deliver with little to no direction.
- Strong ability to effectively collaborate in a remote environment.
