The post will be based in the Retail Market Intelligence and Stability Team. The purpose of this team is to gather & analyse data from energy suppliers on the treatment of consumers, and supplier compliance with certain obligations. This data is utilised to produce insight and actionable intelligence for Ofgem in order to respond to the consumer impacts of retail market conditions.
You will have the opportunity to work flexibly across portfolios and Ofgem on a range of projects or may have a longer deployment within a team where you have in-demand specialist skills, knowledge, and expertise.
This is a great opportunity for someone with strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, and ability to use a range of analytical approaches to add value, work with uncertainty to solve problems, formulate pragmatic options, and present actionable information to decision makers. This will include working across teams to deliver the best available evidence and understanding of operational & policy implications when providing analysis of evidence and developing close links to manage risks and issues.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Ofgem is Great Britain’s energy regulator. Our primary responsibility is to protect energy consumers, especially the most vulnerable, while at the same time working with government, industry and consumer groups to deliver a clean, more affordable and secure net-zero energy system at the lowest cost to consumers and drive economic growth.
Successful candidates will initially be deployed in the Retail Market Intelligence & Stability team, working and collaborating closely with other teams to monitor the retail energy market to establish a sound evidence base for decision-making and policy-making. This team is part of the Financial Resilience and Controls (FRC) Directorate. You will contribute to regular monitoring and reporting on competition and/or customer protection indicators and on the assessment of the impacts of retail energy policies and regulation.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the implementation of BAU activity to regularly monitor and analyse market evidence, including handling large data sets, running existing activity, and issuing new information requests to third parties.
  • Support the internal dissemination of retail market and consumer intelligence updates and insights for the benefit of senior managers and other colleagues across Ofgem.
  • Contribute to written deliverables (internal and external) such as analytical reports, briefings to senior managers and regulatory decisions.
  • Co-ordinate with colleagues on the delivery of unplanned data requests, often at pace.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to scope and agree any analytical input/evidence necessary for monitoring and policy purposes.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders including other government departments, suppliers, and consumer bodies to ensure the timely and accurate provision of insights and analysis, where appropriate.
