WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • 2-5 years of experience in Energy Marketing, commodities trading, or the power industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, or a related business field.
  • Strong technical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SAP.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with a proven track record of handling multiple tasks, deadlines, and shifting priorities.
  • Strong relationship management skills, adept at building and maintaining cross-functional, collaborative partnerships.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences, including managers, direct reports, and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta is currently looking to hire a Settlements Analyst, reporting directly to the Supervisor – Settlements. This role’s main accountabilities are Invoicing, Remittance and Payments for our Energy Trading & Marketing (ETM). We are looking for someone who is eager and ready to learn our business and processes.
This is a terrific opportunity for someone who adapts readily to changing priorities, business conditions, has a passion for efficient production of accurate financial statements and strives for continuous learning, as the role grows and adapts to today’s technology centric environment. This position offers advancement opportunities to grow within the broader shared accounting services team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Ensure that all settled trading activities and Counterparty/Pool-related transactions are invoiced and paid by designated deadlines, including work related to TransAlta’s Power Pools
  • Ensure timely cash clearance and reconciliation by counterparties, supporting accurate Accounts Receivable aging and Accounts Payable reporting
  • Collaborate with credit, cash management, accounting, and AP teams to facilitate prompt payments
  • Monitor receivables to ensure timely receipt and proper allocation of payments, following up with customers on outstanding balances
  • Accountable for month-end close responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly General Ledger account analyses and reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting and analysis
  • Complete monthly reconciliations for FCM options with Allegro and manage outstanding balances not yet posted in cash management
  • Conduct variance analysis and account reconciliations to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy
  • Troubleshoot SAP issues, including testing system upgrades and patches, and resolve integration challenges between SAP, Allegro, AP, and Settlement Pool reconciliation tools
  • Maintain and update the payment calendar to ensure accurate cash forecasting and effective cash management
  • Assist accountants with variance analysis and provide explanations of financial results as needed
  • Apply expertise in Sarbanes-Oxley controls, compliance procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal policies, escalating risks to leadership when necessary
  • Demonstrate a proactive, team-oriented approach, offering support and taking on additional responsibilities to contribute to the success of the Energy Marketing Finance department
  • Effectively analyze and resolve complex issues in a timely manner
