THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an Analyst for a 1-year contract to cover a maternity leave. The Analyst, Strategy & Real Estate Planning role is centered on delivering real estate analytics and GIS support for CreateTO and its key stakeholders. Reporting to the Manager, Portfolio Strategy & Asset Management, this position provides strategic insights and analytics to support portfolio plans, business cases, and stakeholder needs, all with the goal of maximizing resources and public benefits across the city.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the creation of strategic portfolio plans for various asset classes, including asset management recommendations to own, divest, lease, invest and the degree of investment required to achieve organizational objectives
  • Leverage all available sources of data (budget, SAP, online, program plans, master plans, strategic plans, open data, planning policies, subscription data) to develop asset, portfolio and program intelligence
  • Managing data quality and consistency for the City of Toronto’s Divisions, Agencies and Corporations’ real estate holdings, utilizing Excel & GIS tools to develop portfolio insights and discover areas of opportunities
  • Evaluate corporate and program budgets, master plans and capital plans for real estate requirements, including applicable cost and timing
  • Provide advice and options on how to efficiently address current and outstanding real estate needs from City stakeholders and how to manage existing assets more effectively
  • Develop asset management profiles, including financial, legal, operational, occupancy, building condition, City planning and community information
  • Define and meet project purpose and objectives, execute key project activities, define and achieve milestones and deliverables, monitor and track progress, and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Develop executive communications (Board materials, presentations, briefing notes) using various applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, dashboards)

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • University Degree, with a focus in real estate, urban planning, GIS, finance or public infrastructure
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in corporate real estate function, or combination of relevant work and/or education experience
  • Strong GIS and data analysis skills, with experience using QGIS, ArcGIS and/or other Geographic Information Systems
  • Expertise in the translation of complex data into informative analytics, including data management experience (eg. cleaning & collecting datapoints)
  • Excellent research and data analytics skills, with a track record of large-scale data management initiatives specific to urban planning and real estate use cases
  • Experienced in using MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PowerBI)
  • Ability to problem-solve; ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • General knowledge of asset management, City Planning Policies, and/or public sector operations
  • Excellent relationship building with a strong customer focus and a collaborative working style
  • Ability to manage tasks and projects with minimal supervision
  • Ability to think strategically and across various issues, including financial, policy, technical, intergovernmental, legal and operational
  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and personal integrit
