Responsibilities:

The Recovery Specialist position within Volvo Financial Services USA reports to the Legal Counsel, US and will be located in Greensboro, NC, USA.
Volvo Financial Service (VFS) is the captive finance company for the Volvo Group. The Volvo Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks, buses and construction equipment, drive systems for marine and industrial applications, and is the world’s leading producer of heavy-diesel engines. VFS provides a full range of financial services for the construction equipment, truck, and bus industries. Our team has 1,400 professionals in 44 countries around the world.
The Recovery Specialist will be responsible for managing the collection efforts and strategy related to charge-off deficiency balances, coordinating and facilitating the placement of accounts, and communicating account status updates to all relevant parties. This position is responsible for minimizing portfolio losses through effective recovery efforts and will work with customers and other key stakeholders to resolve deficiency balances in a positive, professional manner. The successful candidate will contact customers to set up payment plans and will also refer accounts to collections or litigation, as appropriate.

Core Responsibilities

  • Set up deficiency balances in the system of record according to departmental policies and procedures, and accurately and timely document the current account status of assigned matters in the system.
  • Determine the most appropriate course of action while considering the costs, risks and effectiveness of any proposed action.
  • Negotiate settlement offers submitted by the customer or outside counsel and make recommendations and/or coordinate the settlement process for offers within the Recovery Specialist’s approval authority.
  • Place accounts meeting pre-defined criteria with collection agencies and/or outside counsel, as appropriate.
  • Manage collections and/or legal accounts through active reporting to ensure each account is worked thoroughly; generate reports for management.
  • Manage day-to-day communications between collection agencies, law firms and/or outside counsel, as appropriate.
  • Review and approve accounts to be recommended for charge-off according to company policies and guidelines, if needed.
  • Respond to questions and document requests from internal departments and external customers, dealers, collection agencies, and attorneys.
  • Work with VFS sales team to collect dealer recourse claims, repurchase obligations, and commission chargebacks under dealer agreements.
  • Work closely with VFS legal counsel to ensure all legal correspondence and pleadings are prepared accurately and within VFS guidelines; review pleadings and discovery requests and testify for company at depositions, trials, and hearings and participate in settlement conferences, mediations, and arbitrations, as needed.
  • Manage the invoice approval process for outside counsel and other third-party vendors, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
