Are you a scientist with an affinity to new technologies and a systematic approach to optimizing you own lab workflows? Join our dynamic and forward-thinking team at the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC) to shape the concept for our new labs by working with a diverse group of chemists and engineers to create a cutting-edge workspace. As Analytical Chemist as Instrument Manager (m/f/d), you will play a leading role in creating a concept for state-of-the-art laboratory facilities in our interim buildings as well as in the permanent buildings of the CTC. The CTC team is located approximately 30 minutes from Leipzig and Halle (Saale) in Leuna. The position is currently limited until 31 December, 2025. In the course of the upcoming financing, the position is to be converted into a permanent employment contract.
Your tasks and qualifications
- Run and maintain different analytical instruments
- Communicate with instrument suppliers and service technicians
- Guide scientists with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge about characterization and develop advanced analytical and chromatographic protocols
- Procurement and decision making for new analytical instruments together with the scientists and the procurement department
- Learn new and master existing analytical methods and develop additional maintenance skills
- Organization of the instrument processes
- Organize and perform service measurements for the scientists, leading a team of technicians
- As the analytical expert, you onboard and train scientists on the different analytical instruments
- Work with scientists on projects for the automation of analytical instruments
Your profile
- Master degree or above in a relevant field, such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline or equivalent experience
- Several years of advanced theoretical and practical expertise with diverse analytical equipment such as but not limited to:
- Chromatographic methods (e.g. HPLC, GC-MS)
- Mass spectrometry
- Spectroscopic methods (e.g. NMR, IR, UV/vis)
- Thermo analytics / Calorimetry (e.g. DSC, TA)
- Experience with automation or robotics is advantageous
- Several years of advanced expertise in the characterization of organic molecules
- Experience in troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment
- Willingness to learn new analytical methods and maintenance of equipment
- Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team and instruct technicians
- Good German and English communication skills
