Responsibilities:
ROLE PURPOSE:
We have an opportunity for an inventive, enthusiastic, motivated and experienced senior analytical protein chemist with extensive experience in analytical separation, characterization
and glycosylation analysis of biotherapeutic proteins to join our team of experts in cell culture media development and optimization as an Associate Principal / Principal Scientist and Team Lead in media analytics. This high-level scientific position requires extensive experience with different protein chromatography, separation methods and analysis of relevant protein critical quality attributes. The ability to analyze, interpret complex data, optimize and troubleshoot analytical methods applying a QbD approach would be highly desirable. Knowledge of mammalian cell cycle, metabolism, biochemistry and cell biology would be advantageous.
The incumbent will be responsible for oversight and execution of the scientific activities of the Media Analytics team, which will include elements of laboratory work, scientific review and coaching, project management, professional mentoring, technology scouting and driving implementation of new technologies within the Lonza network.
The Media Analytics team is a key component of Biologics Media R&D, a fast-growing multidisciplinary and dynamic group focused on innovation and innovative approaches to developing and optimizing new media formulations for the growth and production of biotherapeutic proteins from CHO cells.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND DUTIES:
PhD Degree in Biology / Biochemistry / Biotechnology / Biomanufacturing or other related Life Sciences. Extensive industry experience (6+ years) in an analytical environment focused on protein chemistry. Detailed knowledge and practical application of liquid chromatography (SEC, IEX, HILIC, HIC, RP, affinity), mass spectrometry (LC-MS, LC-MS/MS), other separation methods (icIEF, CE-SDS) for protein analysis, and QbD for method development. Thorough understanding of the state of the art technologies and its applications for protein analysis, including charge and size variant analysis, titer measurement, glycosylation analysis, product related impurities and protein characterization with different protein formats, eg. monoclonal, bispecific antibodies, fusion proteins and complex glycoproteins.
Knowledge of basic cell and molecular biology techniques is also highly desirable, i.e., mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, Western blotting, RT-PCR, confocal microscopy etc. Technological background in mammalian cell line development and cell culture process development and experience with high-throughput small-scale bioreactors i.e., ambr15 and ambr250, would be advantageous.
