Responsibilities:

  • May conduct medical research on human disorders, illnesses, preventive or curative methods
  • Refer patients for surgery
  • Conduct microscopic and chemical analyses of laboratory samples and specimens
  • Prepare research papers for publication and presentation
  • Study the nature, cause and development of diseases and the structural and functional changes caused by diseases
  • Supervise laboratory activities
  • Act as consultants to other physicians
  • Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures
  • Assist with or perform autopsies and surgical specimen examinations under pathologists’ supervision
  • Remove organs and tissue specimens from bodies in morgue as directed by pathologist
  • Train resident pathologists and morgue attendants
  • Supervise junior resident pathologists and morgue attendants
