FULL TIME POST - 37.5 HOURS A WEEK.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an individual to become part of a small Mortuary team at Stockport NHS foundation Trust; maintaining and developing skills to ensure a safe, professional and efficient Mortuary service.
This permanent Band 3 position would be well suited to an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate person.
The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of Mortuary activities and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the department.
They will be responsible for the receipt and release of patients, accurate recording of valuables and property and preparing patients for viewing.
They will communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and service users; including bereaved relatives.
The post holder is required to participate in providing an on-call service and also possible weekend working to meet the needs of the department, for this reason applicants must have access to their own transportation.
The post holder will assist in the monitoring of resources (equipment, consumables and premises), to achieve optimum quality and efficiency. They will work closely with the mortuary team leader in day-to-day operation and contribute to the training of junior staff. They will communicate and liaise with clinical and non-clinical Trust staff, HMCo’s, Police, SOCOs, APTs, Funeral Directors and Consultant Histopathologists to ensure delivery of a professional and efficient mortuary service.
As Stepping Hill Mortuary does not perform post-mortems the transfer of deceased to our service provider is required, this is a temporary release in the morning , to return in the afternoon.

To attend mandatory training every two years.
To ensure the rules, policies and procedures of the department, the laboratory and the Trust are maintained.
To liaise, regulate, communicate and respond to the needs of Undertakers including physically assisting and providing body measurements.
To assist and advise relatives of the deceased in a sensitive manner in situations where there may be extreme distress and varying religious rites.
To assist, advise and communicate with other external relevant personnel, such as Police Coroners Officers, Coroners staff, External Pathologists, Tissue Donation staff and Emergency services staff.
To assist, advise and communicate with any other department within the Trust when required
To perform aspects of routine practical mortuary work. E.g. preparing and presenting deceased for viewings and identification.
To use personal judgement based on experience and knowledge to ensure mortuary practices which directly affect patient care and management are carried out correctly within the department.
To ensure deceased are identified and released according to local protocols and that computer inputting is checked for accuracy. Ensuring that any valuables or other property are processed according to agreed protocol.
To ensure the highest professional standards are maintained.
To ensure that relevant personnel are informed of any significant findings as soon as possible.
To operate within departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Policies in own work area as instructed by the Anatomical Pathology Technician Team Leader.
To ensure all data inputted onto computer is checked for accuracy.
All employees have a duty to develop and deliver a customer focused service.
To operate within and assist with updating departmental standard operating procedures (SOP)’s and policies in own work area as instructed by the APT Team Leader.
To support the Named Individual according to the Human Tissue Authority regulations.
To represent the mortuary at careers events, open days, training events and tours for other staff as required.
To assist the Mortuary Team Leader when required in maintaining records relating to all mortuary equipment within the Asset Module of Qpulse.
To notify a senior APT if a piece of equipment requires maintenance.
To complete competencies as required.
To assist APT Team Leader where required in training medical students, nursing staff, portering staff.
To assist the APT Team Leader with facilitating mortuary Tours.
To attend any courses deemed necessary for continual development as agreed by the APT Team Leader.
To maintain confidentiality and abide by the Data Protection Act.
To report any technical faults immediately to a senior APT.
To participate in the departmental examination, vertical, hand hygiene and clinical audit schedules.
To undertake CPD, keeping up to date with new developments.
To use keyboard skills effectively for data input and retrieval.
To be aware of and undertake manual handling duties

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13
