About us
Studying Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology at King’s, you will be part of a multidisciplinary department working to understand the structure and function of the human body, from cells to organ systems, including development, ageing and evolution.
Anatomy is a fundamental subject in the biomedical sciences that fosters creativity and curiosity. Traditional dissection develops widely transferrable practical abilities, as well as skills in exploration and observation, documentation and communication.
Anatomy is central to understanding human variation, and is essential to many exciting medical advances, including regenerative medicine, and new surgical and medical imaging strategies.
About the role
Anatomy Demonstrators teach and supervise undergraduate students in the Department of Anatomy, as well as those students studying Dental and Medical programmes. This is done via tutorials, dissections and other classes. Demonstrators are also involved in the teaching of external groups (e.g. osteopathic medicine, sport therapy, nursing etc.). They may be required occasionally to assist in the setting and marking of “spot” examinations. Some of our Demonstrators are also required to design, teach and assess a series of tutorials on the Advanced Human Anatomy module. All Demonstrators are required to produce prosections to be used for teaching.
Demonstrators will receive instruction on aspects of Anatomy relevant to the classes in which they are involved. These will be delivered by academic members of the Department responsible for organising the Dental, Medical and Science courses. All Demonstrators are also given expert guidance and training (no fee, on-site and online) towards their postgraduate surgical and radiological examinations (e.g. MRCS). This training is given by current and experienced trainers and examiners. Reasonable time will be given to sit professional examinations and to attend recognised courses of study. Moreover, there is also help and supervision for research and publication submissions and the chance to take a pivotal position in the Alcock anatomical society.
All Demonstrators are offered research opportunities, which are discussed with them upon arrival. Supervision and guidance for these projects are given by the academic staff of the Department. Demonstrators are encouraged to present their projects at a scientific meeting (e.g. British Association of Clinical Anatomy), and to submit an abstract or paper for publication. Such research is not obligatory but useful in today’s competitive postgraduate training.
Demonstrators are fully briefed on the requirements for teaching on a weekly basis.
This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31st May 2025.
