JOB OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as an Animal Care Attendant at Hamilton Region Emergency Veterinary Clinic. As an essential member of our patient care team, the Animal Care Attendant will play a critical role in providing attentive and empathetic care to animals in need. This position requires a commitment to the well-being of animals, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a veterinary setting.
- Demonstrated ability to handle animals with care and compassion.
- Knowledge of veterinary medical procedures, anesthesia, and patient monitoring.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
- Ability to lift and carry animals of varying sizes.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations.
- Ability to work efficiently in a team environment and independently.
- Willingness to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating schedule.

Responsibilities:
- Animal Care:
- Provide compassionate and attentive care to animals in the clinic.
- Assist with the admission and discharge of patients, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Feed, water, and monitor the well-being of hospitalized animals.
- Animal Handling:
- Safely and gently handle animals for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Assist technicians and veterinarians with restraint during medical procedures.
- Monitor and report any changes in behaviour of health status.
- Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in kennel areas, treatment rooms, and common spaces.
- Ensure proper disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.
- Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and other team members to ensure seamless patient care.
- Communicate effectively with team members to relay important information about patients.
- Assist with tasks as directed by the veterinary team to maintain clinic efficiency.
- Emergency Response:
- Be prepared to respond to emergency situations and follow established protocols.
- Assist in triage procedures, providing support to the veterinary team during critical cases.
- Remain calm and focused in high-stress situations.
- Client Relations:
- Effectively communicate with clients, offering empathy and support during stressful situations.
- Collect and update client information accurately in our system.
- Strong conflict resolution abilities.
