REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • High school diploma and 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Understanding of safety protocols for clinical environment and animal care
  • Basic knowledge of sanitation and environmental guidelines, regulations, and study needs
  • Knowledge of subjective, objective, assessment, and plan (SOAP) notes and the ability to document post-operative exams in this format
  • Good attention to detail and strong observation skills
  • Ability to safely handle and properly restrain laboratory animals
  • Good ability to communicate animal needs to staff effectively
  • Ability to administer routine treatments with guidance

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

Veranex has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Animal Care Technician 1. You will be part of a team working to improve lives globally through medical technology innovation. The Animal Care Technician 1 is responsible for the daily care, monitoring, husbandry, and support to the well-being of animals in the vivarium. Collaborates with animal care and veterinary staff to ensure animal care is in accordance with study protocol.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Ensures use of the proper size cage for animals and places and maintains cage cards on all animal cages.
  • Provides for the daily care of animals to include feeding, providing water, enrichment, medicating, cleaning and sanitizing animal enclosures and animal areas.
  • Assists with performing activities to meet the behavioral and enrichment needs of animals including, but not limited to, behavioral assessments and socialization.
  • Assists with the maintenance of inventory of animal food, cleaning supplies, various chemicals, and other animal care supplies.
  • Maintains animal room equipment in working condition, reports equipment or supply needs to team lead.
  • Operates and cleans all animal care equipment.
  • Monitors animals and records details of their diet, physical condition, and behavior.
  • Handles and restrains animals in preparation for transport to surgical and/or imaging procedures.
  • Monitors animal room environmental conditions.
  • Assembles animal care equipment and supplies.
  • Reports sick and dead animals. May assist with euthanizing animals and handles the disposal of moribund or dead animals.
  • Provides support for post-operative care of animals.
  • May assist with preparing animals for transport and receipt.
  • May perform subjective, objective, assessment, and plan (SOAP) format post operative exams.
