Description:

As an animal caretaker and technical assistant for farm animals, you will collaborate with the researchers of the Animal Sciences Group at Wageningen University & Research. Within our research facility, Carus, you will be responsible for the care of the experimental animals. Please note that good command of Dutch both spoken and written, is mandatory for this vacancy,

Responsibilities:

  • Daily care of the experimental animals, including recording and documenting any health abnormalities.
  • Proper execution of experiments in collaboration with researchers.
  • Timely and thorough preparation of spaces and materials necessary for the research, without shying away from physical challenges.
  • Conducting experimental procedures such as various sample collections and administration methods according to the research plan.
  • Identifying deviations from the research plan and/or regulations, documenting, and reporting them.
    You will be working with six colleagues who work with farm animals in Wageningen, at CARUS. Information about the chair group/department/project can be found here: Carus.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €2.715,- and €3.266,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 5). Additionally, a contract for 0,74 FTE can be discussed. Initially, we offer you a one-year contract, which will then be extended to an open-ended contract if there is mutual enthusiasm. You are flexible and able to work independently. You are accurate and good at planning and organizing. Additionally, you have a service-oriented and customer-focused attitude and can work well in a small team.

  • (V)MBO education level;
  • Preferably have an article 13f annotation (formerly Art 12) to work with experimental animals and/or are willing to obtain it;
  • Experience in the field is a plus;
  • Good command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written;
  • Willingness to participate in weekend shifts.

In our international work environment, communication is increasingly conducted in English. For this position, the required language level is B2. If you do not yet have this level, we will naturally assist you, and you can receive support from our language center, Wageningen in’to Language.
