Job Title: Animal Intake Manager
Department: Animal Intake
Reports To: Director of Animal Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time
Hiring Range: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Animal Intake Manager is a key team member in the Sacramento SPCA’s goal to exhibit excellence in customer service. This role requires a high degree of customer service, great professionalism, adaptability, tact, and self-confidence. The Animal Intake Manager is responsible for the direct leadership and supervision of the Intake Department staff, ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service to the public, volunteers, and staff as well as ensuring all animals are handled safely with care and compassion. This position also has significant responsibility in supervising and coordinating the day-to-day functions of the department staff by ensuring each associate is reaching their targeted performance goals. The Animal Intake Manager serves as the subject matter expert for our animal control contracts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of domestic animals including breeds, behavior, appropriate care and housing, common health problems, disease symptoms and handling techniques.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, employees, and the general public.
- Must have a valid California Driver’s license with a clear driving record for at least one year prior to application.
- Intermediate computer skills using standard Microsoft Office suite.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent. Associate’s degree preferred.
- At least two years related supervisory experience and/or training is required.
- One year experience in an animal shelter or animal care facility with emphasis on the care, handling and kenneling of domestic animals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Any allergic condition that would be aggravated from exposure or through contact with animals or chemicals used to sanitize facilities, vehicles or equipment, may be a disqualification.
- Must stand, walk, bend and stoop frequently to perform duties. Have the ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds alone or up to 100 pounds with the help of fellow employees for short distances.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May be exposed to hostile or abusive members of the public. Must be able to deal with an often times emotion-charged public and carry a fast paced and changing workload which at times can be stressful.
- By nature of the industry, there may be occasional exposure to dead, injured, sick, unruly, vicious, and/or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and to infectious diseases.
- Must be available and willing to work such weekends, holidays, overtime, and attend mandatory training and meetings as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
