Qualifications: Minimal ; Ability to work in a team oriented environment; Valid driver’s license required. AALAS certification preferred or ability to take the test within 12 months; Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. preferred. A combination of equivalent experience and education with be considered.Responsibilities:: In compliance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Company study requirements provides direct animal care and indirect support of the animal colony. Manages the receipt, storage and distribution of critical research suppliers. Conducts animal inventories and ensures that animal identification cards reflect current data. Manages the program for animal grooming and conducts technician level physical exams on animals within the vivarium and housed off-site. Provides for the environmental enrichment of the animals. Validates the proper functioning of equipment. MSD Animal health is now recruiting an Associate Technician for the ASD and Paracox department within the Quality Control department, at the Milton Keynes site.

Purpose of role
· To perform husbandry duties and support with animal procedures under Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act - {A(SP)A} as required for all animal units located on site.
· To perform Paracox QC testing for finished product and intermediates for Paracox products manufactured at MSD Animal Health
· This role involves the testing in accordance with GMP, dossier and relevant pharmacopoeia requirements.

Key Accountabilities and Duties
· Perform routine husbandry practices, day to day feeding and cleaning of animal units.
· Clinical assessment of animals, before and during tests, as per Home Office
and GMP requirements.
· Recording of information to comply with GMP and Home Office regulations.
· Assist with regulated procedures as licensed by the Animals
(Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, as part of antigen and vaccine batch tests.
· Schedule 1 euthanasia of relevant species.
· Reporting of relevant information to the Senior Animal Technician/QC Management/
Named Veterinary Surgeon/ Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer.
· Paracox QC Testing (Oocyst counts) in accordance with SOP’s.
· Raising of deviations in the Quality Management System and completion of
non-investigative records.
· Raising and completion of CAPA’s.
· To maintain safe working practices at all times.
· Completion and review of COSHH assessments.
· Overtime in the form of evening, weekend and national holidays is required via a rota.
· Ensure monthly safety audits are completed in a timely manner
· Escalate any issues with the animal buildings to the Team Leader/SES Manager
· To work within all areas of QC – including duties in other labs if & when required.
KNOWLEDGE
· GMP Compliance.
· Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986
EXPERIENCE
· Experience in Animal Husbandry
· Experience with small animal procedures
· Experience with using a microscope.
SKILLS AND ABILITY
· MS Word and Excel
· Ability to identify deviations and raise events in the Quality Management System
QUALIFICATIONS
· GCSE or equivalent in English, Mathematics, Science.
· A-Levels
· Personal Home Office Licence
