Description:

Job Advert
We are seeking two full-time Unit Supervisors to join the Biological Support Unit (BSU) of the Babraham Institute. The posts are part of a team of Supervisors supporting the unit managers and are based in high-health status barrier units. You will have high standards and be able to maintain animal health barriers in accordance with local SOPs.
The positions are based within our large mouse breeding and maintenance unit, and our stand-alone commercial rodent unit. You will assume line managerial responsibility for a team of up to five Animal Technicians supporting the unit managers in the day to day running of the unit.
Both positions will work closely with the unit managers to ensure client service level provision is being met to the required standards.

You will be expected to cover all aspects of staff supervision, and management of animal colonies, ensuring work is carried out to consistently high standards and meeting all Home Office requirements.

  • We are interested in meeting you if you have a proven track record in leadership and team management skills, as well as relevant supervisory experience.
  • You will need to be enthusiastic, self-motivated and driven, as you will lead a team of Animal Technicians in a fast-moving professional team environment.
  • You will be responsible for various aspects of service provision and animal care. For example, managing rodent breeding regimes, overseeing scientific cohorts and implementation of work relating to ongoing rederivation programmes.
  • As a Home Office personal licence holder, you will be expected to perform regulated procedures and to be current with the latest developments in the 3R’s, animal welfare and biosecurity.
  • You will be required to be part of an overtime rota covering animal care and procedural work during weekends and public holidays.

Full job specification and role requirements can be found for both roles attached to this vacancy. Please specify in your covering letter if you have a preference in either of the two Units.
