Description:

You will join a committed and experienced team of midwives who work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team. Within this Trust we deliver maternity care to 6000 women.
The Antenatal Ward comprises of 16 single, en-suite rooms. Patients will be admitted to the ward with a variety of Antenatal complications including, but not limited to, raised blood pressure, PV bleeding, pre-term rupture of membranes, unstable lie at term and induction of labour.
You will work alongside other midwives, support workers, ward clerks, cleaners and doctors to ensure a high standard of care and a good level of patient flow on the ward. You will also be expected to support more junior staff and students to help develop their knowledge and skills.
The key attributes of an Antenatal Core Team midwife will include:
A passion for Antenatal Care
A good knowledge of the common complications of pregnancy
Ability to prioritise incoming admissions such as ordering of inductions of labour
Good time management skills
Confidence with escalation policies
Able to work within a large multidisciplinary team with good communication and teamworking skills.
Within the Antenatal Ward we are constantly looking at ways to improve working to ensure the best experience for our patients, and a good working life for the staff. We run weekly huddles and there would be an expectation that you would get involved in the huddles and take on some of the actions that are developed as part of the huddle.
Each core team member also takes on a lead role for the area which may involve gaining a deeper understanding of certain topics and supporting other staff in relation to this, or it may require attending additional meetings and feeding back information to other core team members.
You will initially be rotated across all areas within the acute unit in order to ensure that you are confident working in all areas, prior to then commencing your core team post on the Antenatal Ward. There may be a need on occasion, to work in other areas to ensure a safe skill mix across the unit. You will also need to take part in the unit on call rota.

As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us, for our patients and for you. Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.
Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.
Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)
