The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.
About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Peer Worker for our AOD Program! You will provide effective support to program participants where you will be required to co-facilitate residential program groups and provide direction and support to clients accessing The Bendigo Bridge Program.
Reporting to the Service Manager, this is a fixed-term part-time position, 22.8 hours per week, based in Bendigo, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 2.

You will successfully

  • Provide a lived/living experience perspective when co-facilitating residential program groups/activities
  • Use purposeful disclosure to provide insights and key points that are relevant to the group subject matter
  • Be aware of any pre-existing relationships with current clients and ensure that this does not impact service delivery
  • All reportable incidents are documented and communicated in accordance with program protocols
  • Provide support to the AOD Specialist team where necessary whilst maintaining the scope of the peer role

You will have

  • Experience supporting people struggling with substance use, including previous volunteer work. Experience in or willingness to learn skills in co-facilitation of groups
  • AOD Skill Set or willingness to complete
  • Evidence of completion of Peer Training through SHARC
  • Up to date with all required Covid19 vaccinations
  • Working with Children’s Check
  • Valid open Driver’s Licence (desirable)
  • A National Criminal History Check is required
  • Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date
